Connecting community knowledge, ʻike kūpuna, environmental data, and place-based planning across the Waiʻanae Moku.
What is Pili Nā Moku?
Pili Nā Moku is a multi-year initiative led by the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program and in collaboration with a number of agency and community partners. As a Pili Nā Moku project partner, the Hawai’i Coastal Zone Management Program (CZM) is working to strengthen moku-based coastal resilience and stewardship across Hawaiʻi.
In Waiʻanae, Kingdom Pathways serves as the regional facilitator, helping residents document coastal conditions, cultural resources, environmental concerns, coastal access and places that matter to the community.
Why Are We Mapping?
Coastline's Are Changing
Waiʻanae residents are witnessing:
- Beach erosion
- Coastal flooding
- Access challenges
- Changes to cultural and historic sites
- Water quality concerns
- Impacts to fisheries and gathering areas
Community observations are critical to understanding these changes and informing future planning efforts.
