The proposed improvements to the Pōkaʻī Bay Jetty Wall directly affect shoreline circulation, water quality, and nearshore ecosystems. Because changes to the breakwater can influence how water moves in and out of the bay, community input and data are critical.
Kingdom Pathways stepped in to ensure local voices were included in the conversation. We helped gather feedback, shared circulation concerns, and elevated Christina’s circulation study alongside community observations about water quality and stagnation.
HDR, working with BLNR, will use this feedback and available studies to evaluate design options and identify the most appropriate path forward. Our goal is to ensure decisions reflect both technical analysis and lived experience and move toward a solution the community can support.
• Bids were received on May 26, 2026, and are currently being evaluated.
• Project funds are being encumbered to prevent them from lapsing.
• Hydraulic modeling and alternative analysis are still in progress.
• Results are expected to be shared by mid-June 2026.
• Stakeholders and the public will have an opportunity to provide input before a preferred repair option is selected.
• The project remains on schedule, pending permit approvals.
