Contracted Maintenance Specialist

Reports To: Program Director

Kingdom Pathways is a Native Hawaiian, community-driven non-profit committed to environmental restoration, cultural preservation, and social justice in Waiʻanae, Oʻahu. Through hands-on learning, restoration projects, and advocacy, we empower the next generation of leaders to mālama ʻāina (care for the land) and foster sustainable solutions for Hawaiʻi. Our Ho‘oulu Lāhui Project focuses on reforesting public spaces with native landscapes, revitalizing cultural practices, and engaging the community in environmental stewardship.


Job Summary:

We are seeking a Contracted Maintenance Specialist to ensure the ongoing care and upkeep of our reforestation and green space restoration sites under the Ho‘oulu Lāhui Project. This role involves site visits to maintain native plantings, including trimming, cutting grass, pruning, watering, and applying nutrients to support healthy growth. The specialist will play a key role in sustaining the integrity of these restored spaces and ensuring long-term success.


Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular site visits to conduct landscape maintenance at multiple locations.
  • Trim, mow, weed, and prune to maintain healthy plant growth and prevent overgrowth.
  • Ensure irrigation and watering needs are met, adjusting based on seasonal conditions.
  • Apply nutrients, soil amendments, and organic treatments as needed.
  • Monitor plant health and report any pest, disease, or environmental concerns.
  • Maintain pathways, signage, and overall site cleanliness for accessibility.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure maintenance aligns with restoration goals.


Experience Required:

We are looking for a passionate, community-driven individual who believes in mālama ʻāina and empowering people through knowledge. The ideal candidate will have:


  • Experience in landscaping, forestry maintenance, or native plant care.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian native plants, soil health, and sustainable land management is a plus.
  • Ability to operate landscaping tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between multiple project sites.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work independently, and problem-solving skills.


Schedule:

The Maintance position will work a flexible schedule based on project needs. Compensation is covers per-site basis, depending on experience and contract terms. Travel stipends may be available for site visits.
